One of the most popular creations by Diptyque was inspired by a green English garden that lies along the river with roses and bushes of black currant. It begins on a very strong green, almost sour note with the roses unfolding later on – they are fresh, life-like, but playing their music from the background. The scent itself is highly evocative; the emphatic details of the garden unfold as if in a dream. The earth is slightly moist, the leaves of the black currant are sparklingly fresh, the English roses ... The name – Shadow on the Water – is poetic; it has a touch of melancholy to it, it is a little sour-sweet as the scent itself.
